Squid

Squid are remarkable ocean predators. These invertebrates (animals without backbones) are molluscs, just like snails, but they do not have protective outer shells. They have a tube-shaped body and a small, rod-like internal shell called a pen. Squid have two tentacles that are longer than its arms.
Squid is eaten in many cuisines; in English, the culinary name calamari is often used for squid dishes. There are many ways to prepare and cook squid. Fried squid is common in the Mediterranean. Squid can be prepared for consumption in a number of other ways. It is used as sushi, sashimi and tempura items, grilled, stuffed, covered in batter, stewed in gravy and served in stir-fries, rice and noodle dishes. The squid tentacles are completely edible and especially good when flash-fried to make calamari. The meat is firm and white with a mild, slightly sweet, almost nutty flavor.
Squid is a good source of zinc, manganese, copper, selenium, riboflavin, and vitamin B12. They are also an essential source of amino acids. Some amino acids include histidine, leucine, and lysine.
